Hey RoxyRollers! We are excited to announce that we are headed into storied Austin recording studio: The Bubble to embark on our sophomore record with acclaimed producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith. We have been home from the road for a few weeks and have spent a lot of time in the rehearsal space collaborating. We can’t wait to share this new music with all of you!
Chris “Frenchie” Smith first began as a guitar player in the influential Austin noise-pop band Sixteen Deluxe in 1994. The band signed with Warner Bros in 1996. After Sixteen Deluxe disbanded, Frenchie formed Young Heart Attack in 2001 with Steven Hall and Joey Shuffield from Fastball. Young Heart Attack later signed with XL Recordings and released their debut album Mouthful of Love in 2004. The band did several high profile tours throughout the world with Motörhead, The Darkness, and Peaches.
In time, production became Frenchie’s primary focus and he currently co-owns The Bubble Recording studio in Austin, Texas. You may know some of his previous production work including records by And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Meat Puppets, The Toadies, Gregg Rolie of Santana & Journey, The Answer, Built to Spill, Jet, as well as mixing credits for bands such as The Darkness, The Datsuns, and The Dandy Warhols. As a successful indie-producer, Frenchie has achieved a Grammy nomination, has gotten to work with many foreign musicians, recorded at many notable studios all over the world, and was also chosen to speak at the 2009 SXSW Producer Panel convention. Frenchie is managed by Worlds End Management based out of L.A. and is also a governor for the Grammy’s.
We had a killer showing at First Friday in historic downtown Bryan, Texas. The Palace Theater is an inspiring outdoor amphitheater that is great for hosting all ages. The night kicked off to a packed house with the children being the first to put their dancing shoes to work. The waves of early summer energy had already began and the folks of Bryan were ready to celebrate with us. It had been a few months since our last showcase at this venue and it was great to see some familiar faces. It was especially a nice surprise to see that Austin photographer Milton Otto had made the trip. As always Milton captured some perfect moments from the set.
