Video for “Try My Love” Out Now

Check out our new video for “Try My Love” directed by Josh and Nick Holden from MISHNOON. It just went live a few days ago and the positive response has been awesome. Many thanks to everyone for sharing the video on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, email, etc. and helping us spread the word.

About the video…

We shot the video at The Blackheart on a steamy night in September. A picture is worth a thousand words, so we’ll let the video speak for itself, but you can count on seeing ROXY ROCA doing what we do best with the help of some good friends who were kind enough to join the party. Watch for appearances from Elise Avellan (best known for her roles in Grindhouse and Machete) and B-Boy Recon & The Fresh Collection Break Dancers.

None of this would be possible, of course, without the bumpin’ audio track engineered and mixed by Jason Richard at Clockright Studio.

Thanks, Glen Hansard

Last Thursday’s show at The Continental Club with our good friends Flow Tribe from New Orleans was a blast, but it wasn’t until the next night that we learned about an extra little twist that made it just that much cooler. It turns out Oscar and Grammy winning singer/songwriter Glen Hansard (currently on tour with Eddie Vedder) caught our show at Continental Club and was kind enough to rave about it onstage several times the next night at Bass Concert Hall.

We were at Frank getting set up for our show on Friday, the night after the Continental Club show, when the calls and texts started coming in from friends who were at Bass Concert Hall.

It is always flattering to hear when an artist you respect says nice things about your performance (especially if they do so in such a public way), but that’s not the really interesting part. It gets better:

Way back in 1991, Glen Hansard played the role of Outspan Foster in the movie The Commitments. For those that don’t remember,The Commitments was about a group of young white kids from Dublin that form a soul band. Replace Dublin with Austin, and The Commitments are more or less us! So, we have that in common with Glen. That’s pretty cool, right?

Glen, if you see this, thanks for the kind words. Next time, come say hello, shake a hand, and make a friend.

Video Premiere Party for “Try My Love”

It’s ready and we can’t wait to show it to you: the new video for “Try My Love” directed by Josh and Nick Holden from MISHNOON. We are pleased to announce our video premiere party at The Blackheart on Wednesday, November 14 starting at 8pm. Come hang out with ROXY ROCA and be the first to see our new video. We’ll be showing the video at 9pm, 10pm, and 11pm. DJ sets from Magic ELJ, host of “Soul Vaccination” on KOOP 91.7FM, and killer drink specials round out the night. The wait is almost over — HARD PROOF & ROXY ROCA Part 4: Don’t Fight the Funk with Urban Achievers Brass Band comes to Hotel Vegas on Saturday, November 17. Doors open at 9pm, show starts at 10pm.

Part 3 this past August coincided with one of the worst downpours Austin has seen all year and the fine staff at Hotel Vegas was bailing water like they were on the titanic. No matter- that party was still jumpin’ like nobody’s business, proving that even Mother Nature is no match for The Funk.

It’s gonna go down like this:

First, The Urban Achievers Brass Band will loosen your hips with New Orleans-style brass. Next, ROXY ROCA will make you forget your worries and cares with a soul revival. Finally, Hard Proof will more than likely make you forget your name (and possibly what planet you’re from) with hypnotic Afrobeat grooves. Yes, seriously, they’re that good.
