We played our first show of the new year last night at The Blackheart with So Long, Problems and it was everything we could have hoped for: a wall-to-wall, standing-room-only dance party! Many thanks to all our good friends who came out to help us start the new year right, and especially thanks to good friend Milton Otto for sharing these great photos from the show.

ROXY ROCA Featured in The G.O.O.D.S. Magazine December Issue

Many thanks to Rita Bee from Black Sheep Soul Radio for including ROXY ROCA in her feature article on “Hot Underground Indie Artists to Watch” in this month’s issue of The G.O.O.D.S. Magazine. Here’s what she had to say:

With influences like James Brown, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Joe Tex, Al Green, and General Johnson to just name a few, Austin, TX based band, Roxy Roca is a soul powerhouse. This eight member band hit the ground running when they made their debut at an ACL after-party and the rest was history. From that night on, Roxy Roca made their mark on the music scene, which landed them more high-profile shows with B.B. King, Fitz and The Tantrums, Mayer Hawthorne, Orgone, Honey Island Swamp Band, Brownout, The Monophonics, Maneja Beto, T-Bird and The Breaks, and others. The band was an official showcasing artist at SXSW 2012 and 2013. Roxy Roca recently released “Basement Tapes Vol. I,” a limited edition CD, which is a collection of their early recordings and is available only at shows. Be on the lookout for the band’s first full-length record that is set to be released in the summer of 2014.

The December issue is on newsstands now, so pick up a copy or read the full issue online here: The G.O.O.D.S. Magazine: December 2013.  Just scroll down a bit on the page and look for the “Click to read” button. While you’re reading the article, be sure to tune in to Black Sheep Soul Radio.

Basement Tapes Vol. I CD featured in Zooropa’s SkySplitter EarCandy Best of Music 2013

We were very excited to see our new CD, Basement Tapes Vol. I, featured in Zooropa’s SkySplitter EarCandy Best of Music 2013! Here’s what they had to say:

A totally lucky discovery of yet another Texas soul band from Austin, Texas as Austin continues to not so arrogantly call itself “The Live Music Capital of the World.”  Saw these cats open for Vintage Trouble in a very small club.  We were a hot sweaty mess before the beers kicked in and before Vintage Trouble even hit the stage.  Great guitars, horns and a fantastic lead singer in Taye Cannon. Must Hear Song: Try My Love.
