Sean Claes from INsite Austin Magazine was at Holy Mountain to catch the Free Week show with ROXY ROCA, Money Chicha, Como Las Movies (ex-Maneja Beto), and a DJ set from Peligrosa member Manolo Black way back in January. In addition to taking a great gallery of photos (check out the photos here: More Photos from Free Week 2013) Sean also grabbed some video footage. If you were at that show (or wish you were) here’s a little blast from the recent past to remember a killer night of non-stop grooves.
We have been getting tons of messages asking when the tracks we recorded during SXSW at Big Orange Studio with Converse Rubber Tracks are going to be released. For now I’m afraid we’re going to have to ask you to please be patient! With any luck we’ll have an announcement on that in the coming months. Until then, here’s a little taste. Our good friend, trumpeter extraordinaire, and partner in crime D. Tiger Anaya just happened to have his video camera handy when Taye was goofing around during playback on a track we just laid down (“Can You Handle It?”). You can see engineer Aaron Bastinelli hard at work in the background. Enjoy!
Check out our new video for “Try My Love” directed by Josh and Nick Holden from MISHNOON. It just went live a few days ago and the positive response has been awesome. Many thanks to everyone for sharing the video on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, email, etc. and helping us spread the word.
About the video…
We shot the video at The Blackheart on a steamy night in September. A picture is worth a thousand words, so we’ll let the video speak for itself, but you can count on seeing ROXY ROCA doing what we do best with the help of some good friends who were kind enough to join the party. Watch for appearances from Elise Avellan (best known for her roles in Grindhouse and Machete) and B-Boy Recon & The Fresh Collection Break Dancers.
None of this would be possible, of course, without the bumpin’ audio track engineered and mixed by Jason Richard at Clockright Studio.
MISHNOON is a film and video production company based out of Austin, TX. Founded by brothers Nick and Josh Holden, the company is celebrating a sensational year. Their Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis video was chosen as a Top 12 Kickstarter video of 2011, out of 30,000 submitted videos, and SXSW included their The Fleshlife web series in SXSW’s Digital Domain in 2012. Recent projects include behind the scenes coverage of Willie Nelson’s latest music video, a Black Joe Lewis music video, and a commercial shoot for the Vieux Carre seafood market in New Orleans, LA.
