Where It All Started

Most of us have experienced a defining moment when it comes to music. Maybe it was the first time you heard James Brown or Otis Redding. It’s different for everybody, but we all know that moment when we first heard the music that changed everything for us.

Taye Cannon took a few minutes to sit down and talk about his defining musical moment: the sound that started him down the path to becoming a soul singer. Growing up in Alabama, Taye spent a lot of time listening to his dad’s record collection. One track in particular got his attention: Fats Domino‘s “I’m Gonna Be a Wheel Some Day.” The rest, as they say, is history. Tell ‘em about it, Taye.

ROXY ROCA is making a record!

We are thrilled to announce that ROXY ROCA is going into the studio to make our debut record! Taye made a video to tell you what we have in store. We’ll get the ball rolling this December at EAR Studio in Austin, TX with producer Lars Goransson. Lars has built an impressive resume that includes everyone from indie darlings (like Cotton Mather, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Ian Moore) to major-label rockers (like The Cardigans, Dave Pirner, Alpha Rev) and soul/blues/funk legends (like A.C. Littlefield, Kool & Together, Cornell Dupree). We can’t wait to see how he can help us bring the ROXY ROCA sound to life. The record should be completed by the end of this year with a release date in 2013.
