Last weekend’s show at LUNA in San Antonio was a night to remember and we are thankful to our good friend Stephan Pendarvis for taking these great photos so we can all relive the good times. What a night!

It turns out ROXY ROCA, along with some other like-minded musical cohorts, blew the roof off the outdoor stage at The Blackheart one time too many for the liking of some wet blankets in the neighborhood, leading to a temporary (we all hope) shutdown of live music on Rainey Street. So if you ever wondered what would happen if you took the Dynamite Texas Soul of ROXY ROCA plus a crowd that is energized and ready to dance and put all that inside The Blackheart, now you know: you get a full-on, shoulder-to-shoulder packed, sweaty, pulsating-and-gyrating house party! Our new good friend and intrepid photographer Ryan Evon was there to capture the action in pixels last Friday, May 3.
Our SXSW 2013 Official Showcase at Lustre Pearl last month was an epic night that we won’t soon forget. We were thrilled to be included on a line-up that read like a veritable “Who’s Who” of major up-and-coming soul and funk artists from around the country including The Peterson Brothers Band, The Congregation, Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics, and Diplomats of Solid Sound. The “Rods and Broads” Lonestar After Party sponsored by Steady Clothing at The Blackheart last weekend was a blast. Lucky for us, we got lots of great photos to remember it by, thanks to Bitter Kitten Media, do512, and Live Box Photo.

We had a blast serving as local ambassadors of funk by hosting the Knuckle Rumbler SXSW day party at Valhalla, aka Trunk Funk Vol 2 Hosted by ROXY ROCA. It was an all-day funk/soul party featuring sets from ROXY ROCA along with some truly outstanding bands from around the world, including Tyler Stenson (Portland, OR), Mike Love Duo (Honolulu, HI), The Pinstripes (Cincy, OH), Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics (Atlanta, GA), Rosco Bandana (Gulfport, MS), Monophonics (San Fran, CA), and Imam Baildi (Athens, Greece). Man, what a day!

We had a great day recording at Big Orange Studio in Austin last week, courtesy of our new good friends at Converse Rubber Tracks. Engineer Aaron Bastinelli made sure everything moved along smoothly and we walked out with some great new b-sides and bonus tracks to go along with our new record. When the House of Blues throws a party, they don’t mess around. And when House of Blues throws a Mardi Gras party you can pretty much count on a night to remember (or wish you could remember). We were thrilled to be asked to play at House of Blues Houston’s Mardi Gras party a couple weeks ago and, trust us, it was worth the drive!
